Association of Plumbing & Heating Contractors (APHC)
The APHC is a not-for-profit trade body for the plumbing and heating industry in England and Wales. We have been around since 1925 and represent large companies working on commercial projects to sole traders working in domestic properties.
Being a member of APHC distinguishes professional businesses from the rogue traders. We are committed to helping plumbing and heating contractors run professional and profitable businesses, whilst ensuring consumers have better standards of workmanship and service.
We work closely with key organisations such as Government, Local Authorities, Training Bodies and Consumer Organisations to ensure that best practice in the industry is promoted and that quality plumbing and heating contractors are fairly represented.
We are a source of knowledge, professional advice and support for members and consumers.
Builders Merchants Federation
The BMF is the only organisation that represents and protects the interests of Merchants and Suppliers to the merchanting industry with Central and Local Government throughout the UK and in Europe and enforcement bodies ie trading standards and planning departments.
The BMF will act on individual members' behalf in disputes and keeps members up to date on current business issues and is also the primary provider of industry specific and specialist training for all employees covering everything from apprenticeships, through product and selling skills, to manager development and even a foundation degree. The BMF also provides a range of services to assist members in running their businesses more efficiently.
British Plumbing Employers Council
The BPEC group of companies specialise in providing operatives working in the building services engineering industry with the skills and expertise necessary to meet the high industry quality standards. They work closely with a nationwide network of employers, colleges and private training providers to enable them to offer a range of quality training materials, assessments and qualifications.
Construction Industry Training Board
Our role is to work with employers to encourage training, which helps to build a safe, professional and fully qualified workforce. The support and funding we provide helps companies to improve skills, increase their competitiveness and respond to challenges such as the low carbon agenda, reducing costs on site and recruiting the best talent for their
sector. CITB works with the industry and its clients to ensure the construction sector has the right skills, in the right place, at the right time.
Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineers (CIPHE)
CIPHE offers its members various courses extending from new legislation, running a small business to the legalities of being a plumber. Their trading committee consists of qualified plumbers and lecturers from colleges around the country who are involved in the day to day training of new entrants into the industry.

JTL are a not-for-profit charity, offering advanced electrical apprenticeships, also plumbing, engineering maintenance and heating & ventilating apprenticeships. Being one of the top work-based learning providers in England and Wales, JTL has evolved to also provide traineeships, alongside a growing choice of professional development training courses for those already working within the industries.
The National Association of Plumbing Teachers
The NAPT is a voluntary professional body whose purpose is to consider educational and training aspects for the benefit of industry, preserve quality and standards of work and to keep its members informed on technical developments and educational trends.
The National Training Group – Kitchens Bedrooms Bathrooms (NTG)
NTG are a network of individuals, businesses and manufacturers who share a common interest in raising and maintaining the skills level of people who work within the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom industry.

Proskills UK Group is an industry focussed and award winning skills development body that creates impact at the cutting edge of vocational education and training. We are a champion for quality industrial skills development in the UK and internationally. Our work is proven to help employers raise productivity and improve the competitiveness of their businesses; to help Governments and their agencies to tackle national, regional and industry priorities; and to help training and education providers to develop their own skills and offers.
Scottish & Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers’ Federation (SNIPEF)
SNIPEF is the trade association providing professional and practical assistance to plumbing and heating businesses in Scotland and Northern
Ireland and continue to meet members’ needs by developing relevant and practical services.
The only industry approved training scheme for apprenticeships in Scotland is the SNIJIB Modern Apprenticeship Scheme, managed by SNIPEF Training Services. This scheme regulates the entry, conditions of service, training and education of apprentices in the Plumbing Industry to ensure that they are trained to the standards set by the Joint Industry Board for the Plumbing Industry
(JIB) and Summit Skills, the industry's lead body.
Summit Skills is responsible for developing the sector’s apprenticeship framework and works closely in consultation with partners to ensure that the framework content is relevant to industry and employer needs. We also issue apprentice completion certificates to colleges and training providers and have a responsibility to assist employers or students with queries they may have around their apprenticeship framework and completing their apprenticeship.
